Jennifer Ellison: I want to be a mum but I'll just have to wait

Feb 16 2009 by Tina Miles, Liverpool Echo

Liverpool actress Jennifer Ellison on her marriage plans, her new Liverpool Fame school venture and why she would love to start a family . . .

ACTRESS Jennifer Ellison is so keen to open her own Fame academy in Liverpool she's even putting her wedding plans on hold.

The theatre and TV star told the ECHO she wants to give the project 110% – and then she will settle down with her new man Robbie Tickle, 29, and have babies.

Jennifer, 25, has had bids from four major TV companies which all want to film the ex-Brooksider and the students of The Jennifer Ellison Fame Academy.

She said: "My manager has had a big meeting because they want to do a documentary about the school.

"The academy is something I feel very passionate about. The TV thing came along after all the media interest. It is great for the kids, great for the school and great for Liverpool.

"The wedding plans have been put on hold, that's how focused I am about the academy. I want to give it 110% and I want to give the same to the wedding, so we are planning to get married at the beginning of 2010.

"I can't wait to get married. I'm extremely broody so I would like us to start trying for a baby after the wedding."

Jennifer is looking for a site near Sefton Park for the scheme, which she is financing herself.

She has already had interest from two talented young pupils – Robbie's twin girls Sophie and Chloe, who stay with the couple two days a week.

She said: "They are eight and love High School Musical. They do ballet classes and love singing and dancing.

"Seeing the way Rob is with them makes me so broody. I want to be a young mum but at the moment my main focus is on The War Of The Worlds and the fame school."

Jennifer is touring the country in The Vagina Monologues and will perform at the Empire Theatre next month.

She then kicks off a tour of Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds in June, playing the role of Beth.

She said: "Touring can be very lonely but I'm very lucky because Rob has took four weeks off work to come with me while I'm doing The Vagina Monologues.

"I'm over the moon to be coming back to Liverpool. I get to sleep in my own bed and have all my home comforts.

"It's a risqué script but I think my nan and all the family will be coming to watch it."

Jennifer will return to the Liverpool stage after playing the role of Cinderella in the Empire's Christmas panto.

But her run was cut short when she became ill with pleurisy.

She said: "I was really upset because I wasn't able to perform on the last night.

"I was doing a quick change backstage and I tripped over a stagehand. I cracked two of my ribs, which stopped me being able to breath properly, and that developed into a chest infection.

"I wasn't resting because I was doing two shows a day. My body went into spasm. I felt like I was being punched in the side every time I breathed and I had pain in my chest and arms. At one point I burst into tears when I was on stage.

"Rob bundled me in a car and rushed me to hospital. I was given two strong types of antibiotic and I was in bed for a week.

"My mum and Rob really cared for me when I was ill. I couldn't ask for anything more, he was brilliant.

"The night I went to hospital was the night everyone in the panto was going out for a big do. I went to Les Dennis's daughter Eleanor's christening the next week so I caught up with everyone then."

It hasn't stopped Jennifer speaking fondly after her panto debut. She said: "It was a fabulous show, I loved it.

"It was amazing to be on stage in my home town in Capital of Culture year."

Another highlight was her engagement to businessman and semi-pro boxer Robbie during a holiday in the Maldives last October.

She said: "It was very romantic and totally a surprise. When I walked in the room, there was a flower arrangement on the bed and written in petals was 'Marry Me'. He got down on one knee and I just burst into tears and he asked me if that was a yes. I said: 'Of course it is'.

"I can't wait to get married.

"We haven't decided what kind of wedding we'll have, sometimes we think a big white wedding and other times I think something very small."

The pin-up broke up with Tony Richardson in 2007 after a seven-year relationship and admitted she has only started to regain her self-esteem with the help of her new fiancé.

She said: "Rob's helped my self-confidence so much. Last year was an amazing year for me and this year is going to be the same.

"I don't think people realise how behind the theatre academy I am, I want to make it a success.

"I've been in this business for 13 years. I wasn't born into a showbiz family and I want to give other children a chance to make it."

This is a really good interview and think it would be great if there was a documentary made about this it would be really great and interesting.

I wonder how many children they want to have and what the names will be. Will there be a Robbie Jr.?
